✖ PLAYER:
Name & Journal: Nicole [personal profile] labyrinth
Birthdate & Age: March 14. I am 31.
Characters played in Zodion: None at this time.

✖ CHARACTER:
Name: Alphonse Elric
Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
PB/Image: Here.
Info links: History link here.
Canon Point: Right before Alphonse leaves for Xing alongside Zampano and Jerso. Roughly two years after the promised day.
Gender & Sex: Male.
Age: 17

Birthdate/Sign: Given that Alphonse does not have a canon stated birthday, I have chosen to make him a cancer based off multiple facets of his personality with a birthday that falls on July 10th. Cancer's are known for being highly dependable, caring, and loyal. However, cancers are also packed full of contradictions so when it comes to independence. Ruled by their emotions, they can do what needs to be done, however, the same emotional rule can also lead them to being extremely dependent on others they care about (ie: Al's extreme attachment, dedication, and over protective nature to his brother Edward). We also see during the middle of Alphonse's story that he is extremely moody and sensitive when it comes to his condition and whether or not he might be real. It's also said that Cancer's born between the 4th of July through the 13th of July are also known to be able to achieve more than the average sort of life. There are also times when they are possessive and domineering of the people they care about, but by the same token these people are also exceedingly loyal and will sacrifice much for their loved one's happiness.

Tattoo: Al's tattoo will be located in the middle of his upper back. A position that will mimic the placement and size of the blood seal that kept his soul bound to the suit of armor he was in for almost 6 years.

Suitability: Suitability: After the death of his mother and the loss of his body at a young age (10), Alphonse burned down and left his home behind along side his older brother Edward. The two traveled far and wide across their country in search of the fabled Philosopher's Stone. It took six years of searching, traveling, and meeting new people to accomplish this goal. Over the years Alphonse was not only responsible for himself and his brother, but he came to protect and fight for many of his friends and the country itself.

Adjusting to a new world, while strange at first, will not prove to be a problem over time. In fact, prior to his arrival Alphonse was getting ready to explore new countries to the far east of his home. This will be yet another new experience and Alphonse will meet it head on as usual. So Alphonse will first be concerned with finding housing and a job to support him and anyone else he might befriend and live with over time. For the most part he will live a very modest lifestyle, having not had the opportunity to really own any personal belongings a great deal of Alphonse's future income will be saved and put to use in times of need. He will most likely seek out employment in Zodion's Library has he's always had a great fondness for books and knowledge.

As far as his ability to adjust to needing to have an active sex life, he will without a doubt find it very strange at first. Traveling for many years and being without a body has left him little time to consider making emotional bonds with someone of the opposite/same sex, and he will most likely need a bit of a helping hand from the Twelve (through aphrodisiac) for his first time with someone he has come to trust during his initial few weeks. After his first time having to worship once ever few weeks will begin to be easier for him, but he'll most likely look to form some sort of long lastly bond with the person he will be sleeping with. Not only is Alphonse a bit old fashion, but he likens himself to a gentlemen, so it'll take a little longer for him to warm up to the idea of casual sex.

In short: Alphonse would be a bit unsure at first about the sex, but thanks to his determination and desire to help people, he'd eventually get used to the idea of worshiping over time.

Power: In the world of Amestris, Alchemy is an ancient metaphysical science that can be used to combine one or more elements using energy that is generated from plate tectonics. This act is known as Transmutation and in order to properly complete a successful transmutation on needs to possess a great understanding in scientific fields like chemistry and biology, alchemical theories, and a natural aptitude and talent for understanding all of the information and using it within a few split seconds. A successful transmutation consists of first comprehending the atomic or molecular makeup of the materials to be transmutated. This includes the flow and balance of energy within these elements and what's needed to alter them, if the flow and balance are not maintained the alchemist performing the transmutation will risk a rebound. The second and third parts are known as deconstruction and reconstruction. These phases are all about using the energy of the transmutation to break down the material components into a workable base so they can be reconstructed into their new or restored form.

However, while alchemy allows you to take raw materials and turn them into finish products, there are laws set in place that are used as guidelines and can not be ignored. The main law in alchemy that must always be followed and maintained is known as Equivalent Exchange: In order to obtain or create something, something of equal value must be lost or destroyed.. Equivalent Exchange is then separated into two parts: The Law of Conservation of Mass and The Law of Natural Providence. The first law focuses on maintaining the equivalent amount of material you start and end with, one kilogram of material will break down into one kilogram and reversely one kilogram worth of material can only create one kilogram of new material. The second law states that material can only be transmuted into another object with the same basic makeup and properties of that initial material.

The last thing required to successfully preform any transmutation is Transmutation Circle. Made up of two parts (the outer circle and the inner circles, runes, and passages), the circle is designed to contain, control, and guide the flow of energy during a transmutation. Those intelligent enough to create and use alchemical arrays ( a circle which is not confined by a circumference ) can use arrays to make transmutation circles based around their bodies. By putting these arrays on their palms, arms, or legs when their palms are pressed together or their body is joined (flesh to flesh) they form a complete circle and can therefore complete a successful transmutation based off the array that has been placed on their skin.

Alphonse Elric is capable of performing alchemy. His ability to pay close attention to detail ensures that any of his alchemical transmutations are completed quickly and efficiently. He does not go out of his way to create elaborate or gaudy things (that’s Edward’s job), but he has known to be creative from time to time if the situation calls for it. Due to his exposure to the gate and the Truth Alphonse is capable of preforming transmutations with alchemy without the use of drawing an array like his brother Edward.

However, even without alchemy, Alphonse is an extremely intelligent young man and possesses a great wealth of knowledge in the fields of biology and chemistry. If allowed the chance it is entirely probable that if he was given the chance to take the qualification tests required of the State Alchemist that he would have passed along side Edward. It is very likely that had Alphonse taken the exam in this canon he probably would have completed the exam as he did in the 2003 series from beginning to end. Something most candidates (including Edward) were unable to do. Alphonse would have went on to become a state alchemist if it had not been for the inclusion of a physical exam, wishing to keep his physical condition a secret he was forced to drop out.

Alphonse was also trained by Izumi Curtis in both alchemy and in hand to hand combat. “To train the spirit(mind), first train the body." Izumi’s starting lesson and the ones that followed help condition him to survive in the wilderness. Edward even remarks that Alphonse is an even more skilled combatant than himself and notes that he has never beaten him in a fight, this applies to even before Izumi's training. Alphonse was capable of appearing graceful as a giant suit of armor for years, keeping up in hand to hand combatants with vicious opponents like the homunculus and Scar.

Powers in Zodion: In Zodion, Alphonse will find his ability to preform alchemy severely muted. He will retain his ability to transmutate without a circle, by pressing his two hands together and forming a circle with his body. However, Al will be unable to preform more than three transmutations a day. The amount of material he can transmutate will vary, three small transmutations will do very little to him physically. However, if Alphonse attempts to transmutate anything large he may find himself physically pained or fatigued, pushing himself to complete such a transmutation may cause him to lose consciousness for an unknown period of time. Such a transmutation may also fail outright if it's too much for his body and spirit to handle.

Personality: Alphonse Elric is in many ways a foil to his brother Edward’s impulsive and rough personality. Where Edward is abrasive and arrogant, Alphonse is gentle and modest. Alphonse likes to think himself a gentlemen, noble, kind-hearted, compassionate and patient to a fault. Alphonse is an exceptionally bright young man, he has a good memory, a quick wit, and a decisive mind that can quickly assess details and apply solutions. Where Edward goes rushing in, Alphonse takes his time and thinks through a situation. Above all else, Alphonse, is self-sacrificing. He will not think twice about putting his own life in harm’s way if it meant saving an innocent life, a friend, a loved one, and in some cases even an enemy.

Prior to his mother’s death, Alphonse lead a happy life. His curious nature and drive for knowledge was sparked by the discovery of his Father’s alchemy research. Alongside Edward, they taught themselves the basics of alchemy and came to understand how to make simple toy-like things at first. Trisha, their mother, was even surprised to see that the boys understood and she only helped to fuel Alphonse’s growing appetite to learn. His high level of intelligence and eye for detail becomes even more apparent as the boys age and continue to teach themselves over the years.

It is the death of Trisha that brings the boys to a crossroad. One where Edward suggests that they bring her back using what they have learned. Lost, sad, and as desperate as Ed to feel the warm touch of his mother, Alphonse agrees. The decision ultimately costs him his body. At the age of 10, Alphonse Elric’s soul becomes attached to an aged piece of armor in the workshop of their estranged father. Denied physical growth, Alphonse is left to mature mentally in practically invincible suit of armor. Though, like his brother, he blames the failed transmutation of his mother and Edward’s loss of limbs on himself. However, this only pushes Alphonse to keep going and never give up. As Edward pledges to help get Alphonse his body back, so does Alphonse pledge to help return his Brother’s arm and leg.

The suit of armor eventually leaves many to confuse Alphonse as the “Full Metal Alchemist”, but the suit of armor grows to become one of Alphonse’s biggest insecurities. Alphonse dislikes being reminded of his large size and often becomes upset when it brings unwanted attention to him. He often cries out that it was not his choice to become so big. With no need to sleep, eat, or rest, Alphonse spends many nights alone and it leads him to eventually question if his really is Alphonse at all. He grows to crave the warmth of human touch and comes to fear that he might never know the touch of another human being again.

Eventually, he resolves to continue on trying to restore his body, because he can not take it anymore. He wants to get back to being normal, being human. He comes to realize that he can continue on because he owes it to Edward, and to turn on the body he was given would be turning on him and the alchemy he believes in. Alphonse puts it best, when he said: I believe in my brother, and I believe in alchemy. I will not lose faith... I want to believe! Beneath it all, he remains hopeful that he will be returned to his human body one day, and even keeps a journal of all the delicious food he plans on eating once he gets his body back.

As the series continues on and more people are hurt at the expense of their search to regain their bodies. Alphonse’s protective nature is pushed into high gear. Down in the 5th Laboratory he says the following in response to Riza Hawkeye telling him to leave and save himself: I won't leave you! I'm sick of watching people die! And I can't just sit back and take it anymore! I won't let anyone else get killed! Not when I can protect them! Though his protective nature can even be seen before then when he yells and calls Edward an idiot for not running away from Scar when he had the chance in Central City. Moreover, this nature can also be seen in the way he often rescues stray kittens, hiding them away in his empty body cavity so that his brother doesn’t see.

Some claim that Alphonse displays the psychological mindset of a child, due to being trapped in a suit of armor at the age of 10. But on the contrary, Alphonse displays the mindset of a young adult that grows to understand the complex demands of being an adult. He has to come to accept the death of his close friends and more importantly the fact that he himself may only have days, weeks, or months left to live before his soul rejects the metal body it has been given. naivete so many claim he has is merely from a result of his never ending sense of hope. Despite all the hardships, Alphonse never once falters or loses confidence that they will fail in their quest to return their bodies to normal. Even in the end, when he gives up his soul to restore Edward’s arm so that he can beat Father(the antagonist), he tells Truth, that Edward will most definitely come for him.

The law of Equivalent Exchange, which serves as the foundation for Alphonse’s system of beliefs is at the root of this. Following the basic rules, one can not gain anything without giving up something in return. The journey and life lessons that Alphonse has learned, has helped to make him a much stronger person and the man he will ultimately become in the future.

With all that said and done, it is ultimately Edward, his brother, who is the most important person to Alphonse. While, their mother is important, throughout Alphonse’s life it was Edward who came to care for him most. The entire series is nothing but a testament to the Brother’s close emotional and physical bond. Alphonse is forever touched by his brother’s sacrifice, awestruck by his inability to give up, and ultimately grateful for not dying and keeping his promise. They have been to hell and back, and without Edward, Alphonse would fall apart. When the two boys are often in danger, and Alphonse takes it upon himself to try and save Edward, they often are left arguing in the end over protecting one another.

It’s during these moments that those watching get to see another side of Alphonse. The one that can explode at a drop of a dime with emotions such as anger, rage, and fear. His selflessness kicks into high gear and his desire to keep Edward safe above all else clouds his judgment. It makes an idiot out of both of them:

Al: [punches Edward, leaving him shocked] Why didn't you run away when I told you to !!? What kind of idiot are you?!?
Ed: No way!! I'm not just gonna run away and leave you behind!
Al: WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY YOU'RE A IDIOT! [punches Edward again as their quarrel catches attention from a spectating military]
Ed: What do you keep punching me like that for? If I'd run away you could have been killed, you know that?!
Al: And maybe I wouldn't have been! Making the decision to die is something only an idiot does!
Ed: Hey, easy on the "idiot" stuff. I'm still your older brother, got it?!
Al: [grabs him by the collar] I'll say it all I want to!! Survival is the only way, Ed... Live on, learn more about alchemy... You can find a way to get our bodies back and help people like Nina... You can't do that by dying! I won't allow you to abandon the possibility of hope, and choose a meaningless death. [his arm falls off] Oh, great! AND NOW MY ARM'S COME OFF BECAUSE MY BROTHER IS A BIG, FAT IDIOT!!!
Ed: Hmm... We're really falling apart, aren't we, Brother? We look like we belong in a junkyard.
Al: But we're still alive.
Ed: We are.

With his body back, Alphonse makes sure he enjoys every sight, smell, sound, and taste. He’ll linger on the feeling of anything tangible and hugging has become his number one past time. Thanks to everything they lived through, they have a new motto as well: to take ten, and give back one more, ten more, and even a hundred more. Nina’s tragedy has inspired the brothers to seek out more knowledge and make a new goal of combining knowledge from around the world.

✖ SAMPLES:
"Zodion" First-Person Network Entry:

[The feed starts without Alphonse even being aware it's on. Fingers now and again block the camera from recording as the phone in question is turned on it's side and twisted forward, back, up, and then down. When he had lifted the device and letter form the box he had discovered on the alter he ignored the items for some time.

The letter however was impossible to ignore, it's contents were stranger - especially the part that said: It is our great pleasure and honor to welcome you to Zodion. For your huge talent, you have been chosen from among all the times and galaxies to aid us.]

What the hell did it mean by huge talent anyway?

[He mutters to himself, eyes drifting along the paper as he gives it another read. After a few more seconds of staring, Alphonse crumples the paper quickly in his palm and looks back to the device. He blinks once, then squints as he notices a tiny little light flashing at him. With a tilt he leans closer, eyes drifting along the screen as he attempts to discern what it might mean.]

Are you working now or something?

[He asks... not really expecting a reply back, but when he gets one he can't help but drop the small device in surprise.]

You can talk!?

[When the device talks again he bends to lift it quickly back up into view, surprised to find another face there to greet him. Unsure and uncertain, he does his best to put a smile on his lips, hand rising to wave at the screen ever so slightly.]

Um ... hello? Can you hear me in there?

"Zodionlogs" Third-Person Prose Entry:

"Be right there!" Alphonse yelled, hand raised towards Jerso and Zampano as they begin to board the train ahead of him. The train whistles for the second time, announcing it's imminent departure. Preparing to board the train, Alphonse gives the city of Central one final look. Golden colored eyes drift from the train and down to the right, through the open ceiling he can see the edges of concrete and brick buildings that make up Central City. In the distance, he focuses on the Military Building, he can just barely make out the green and silver flags that are flapping in the air and his thoughts drift to his friends. Colonel Mustang, Lieutenant Hawkeye, Gracia and her daughter Elicia, and even Edward who at this moment should be boarding his train into town to start his own journey west.

"See you later, Central. Brother... I'm off." he says, but his words are drowned out by another harsh whistle cutting through the air. Alphonse's first step forward is accompanied by a strange silence and when he looks up everything has changed. One minute he had been standing on the platform of the Central Train Station the next he was walking along a grass covered path. When Alphonse comes to the circle his eyes linger on the ground, not the temple ahead of him.

Circles are symbols of power and meaning where Alphonse is from and he can not resist the urge to bend at the knee and touch the edges with his fingers. There's no energy to be felt, not even when Alphonse brings his hands up before him, with palms pressed flat as if in pray he waits a second before he sets them back down on the circle's edge.

He waits but there is no reaction or flow of energy. It would seem his alchemy is gone, but Alphonse knows such a fact should be the least of his concerns. Rising to his feet he continues his way forward and towards the stone alter ahead of him. Alphonse ignores the glowing box that rests atop it for the circle of water at his feet. He lingers on the edge, once again too curious to cross. This time he walks the circumference of the circle of water and only after he has walked the pool twice does he stop and cross over.

"Ah-!" Alphonse cries out with a wince, hand lifted to press against the edge of the space between his shoulder blades. Though his attention remains on the water as it starts to rise up all around him. It is only then that he comes to realize that he is naked and with flushed cheeks he begins to curl into himself and that is when he spots it, the large curved marking on his back. What it means and why it's there will have to wait, with the water beginning to recede he focuses on the dimming alter and the small box that is set atop it.
